Radio icon Donnie Simpson, 55, broadcast his last show on WPGC Friday in a program filled with reflections and farewell wishes from friends and fans.

Simpson, the one-time host of BET’s “Video Soul,” announced this week he was leaving WPGC after a disagreement with management over the direction of his morning drive slot.

His final day included a visit from Fox 5’s Tony Perkins, who worked with Donnie on the radio for years before moving to television. [Watch Tony's interview with Donny below.] Celebrities from across the country called in to say farewell and thank you to the radio pioneer. Also, a fan appreciation event was held for him this afternoon at DC landmark Ben’s Chili Bowl.

Simpson, who has been in radio for 40 years (including 15 years at DC’s WKYS), wants to assure fans he is not retiring, and will make an announcement regarding his future plans in the coming months via DonnieSimpsonOnAir@gmail.com and on his Facebook page.
