Well folks California is in the news again. This time its my home town Oakland!! This racist cop had to get a change of venue to Los Angeles to get this chickenschitt sentence!!! If he were still in Oaktown his azz would be toast by now.

He will undoubtedly be sent to a minimum security prison for cops that they have in California and then set free to move to another state. He will probably change his name. There are so many crooked cops in California they have actually set aside a prison for them when they do get busted for corruption and or murder.

Trust me! They dont catch enough of them!! They have their own prison because if they were placed in regular prisons and the inmates found about it they'd be dead in less than an hour. Trust me the inmates would find out about it!!

Riots in Oakland after transit officer convicted for shooting

(CBS) - A jury has convicted a white former transit officer of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of an unarmed black man on an Oakland train platform.

Johannes Mehserle was found guilty yesterday in a Los Angeles courtroom in the New Year's Day 2009 killing of 22-year-old Oscar Grant.

Involuntary manslaughter carries a sentence of two to four years.

The incident was videotaped by several bystanders.

Prosecutors said the 28-year-old Mehserle became angry at Grant for resisting arrest.

Mehserle claims he mistakenly drew his gun instead of his taser.

The trial was moved to Los Angeles after racial tensions boiled over into violence in Oakland.

There are now riots in the streets of Oakland as the community responds.

The damage caused by the riots in Oakland is extensive. Because of the close media scrutiny in the state the cops have taken a lower profile. Otherwise they would fatally shot some people for exercising their rights. Oh well the struggle continues in the 'Golden State'.

Most of the damage appears to have occurred around Jack London Square in downtown Oakland. By the way before I forget. Oakland California is the city where the Black Panthers were founded. Perhaps its time for an encore performance by another group in Oakland. This problem will never go away. We have been reading about cops murdering Black men for decades now. It never seems to end.

BART verdict: Oakland damage extensive from unrest; at least 80 arrested

Oakland officials on Friday morning were trying to sort out the damage after serious looting in the downtown area following the BART verdict in which an ex-officer who killed an unarmed man was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

Crowds of people roamed the streets following Thursday’s verdict into early Friday, smashing storefront windows, stealing merchandise, setting trash fires and tagging walls.

According to Oakland police, more than 80 people were arrested. Among the stores looted included a Foot Locker, Sears, 24 Hour Fitness as well as jewelry stores.

As of Friday, officials said calm had returned, and BART service -- which was stopped at some stations during the unrest -- had resumed.

Men sprayed graffiti on walls and windows on Broadway; one outside Tully’s Coffee read: “You can’t shoot us all.” Large fires billowed out of dumpsters on 20th Street and Telegraph Avenue.

At 20th Street and Broadway, authorities released smoke to disperse a crowd that was overrunning police and throwing bottles at officers, according to Oakland Police Chief Anthony Batts.

Batts said there were probably about 100 troublemakers out of up to 800 people who showed up at 14th Street and Broadway after Thursday’s verdict, in which former transit Officer Johannes Mehserle, a white man, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the fatal shooting of Oscar J. Grant III, an unarmed black man, at the Fruitvale BART station on Jan.1, 2009. Prosecutors had sought a stronger conviction of second-degree murder.

Batts described the troublemakers as “anarchists” who came to Oakland to cause trouble and not peacefully express their views on the verdict.

“This city is not the wild, wild west,” he said. “We will allow people to protest, but we will allow it to be done peacefully.”

Workers in Oakland evacuated the downtown core after news broke that the verdict was to be read, and store owners boarded up windows.

The demonstration throughout the early evening was largely peaceful but tense. People held up photos of Grant as police equipped with helmets and riot gear looked on. A sign draped over a light post read: “Oakland says guilty.”

As darkness fell about 8 p.m. and most of the demonstrators went home, a group of people dressed in black and wearing black masks moved toward police.

“It was clear that they were taking an aggressive posture. ... We started taking a number of rocks and bottles,” Batts said. “We then made a dispersal order.”

By 8:30 p.m., the looting began. People broke windows at a Rite-Aid drugstore. A California Highway Patrol car window was smashed, as was the window of a news television van.

Residents could be heard yelling at the younger protesters in the street to “go home. This is our city. Don’t destroy it.”

The reaction in Los Angeles, where the trial was moved because of intense publicity in the Bay Area, was peaceful. A group of people upset with the verdict gathered in Leimert Park late Thursday, but the event was so peaceful that even the police left before the end.

Grant’s uncle, Kenneth Johnson, 48, came to see the rally but did not stand up to speak. Johnson, who lives in Los Angeles, said he was unhappy with the verdict and thought justice had not been served.

He was, however, glad to see Angelenos rallying for Grant. “L.A., Oakland, the same things go on both places,” he said.

dawilliams, like I said on the thread started by LA90056, the public needs to certainly resist and protest police oppression!

We both know that riots have scarred several cities dating back to several decades - and all of these riots started after some cop either unjustly roughed up or pulled his piece and blew away a black man!

The root of the problem in my estimation is cities hiring white cops from the suburbs who have no understanding of the culture of black people or who were raised to hate us or fear us!

Years ago, the late Stokely Carmichael of SNCC spoke out about this and condemned cities for hiring "cracker" cops to patrol the inner city! Indeed, nothing has changed in the past 30 or 40 years!

Think love, not hate!

It certainly appears as though police brutality in the Black community is one time honored American tradition that just wont go away. It will take the people standing up for their rights to make it go away. Its disgusting that in the 21st Century the Black community is still being policed by cops with Bull Connors type mentalities from the 1960's. What da fiuck!!

These riots are having long reaching repercussions. Besides the obvious victims Oakland native and former Governor Jerry Brown may be in serious hot water because of this latest police murder. Meg Whitman his opponent who is worth billions of dollars of E-Bay money is going to use this a political amunition against Brown. She has already flipped her position on illegal immigration. She vows too put troops on the boarder to halt illegal aliens from coming into the country. This has gotten her a lot of points. She had no chance of beating Brown in the beginning but she has gained on him. Question: Why would someone be willing to spend $100,000,000 to become Governor of a state that is nearly broke with tons of problems. The job of Governor of the state of California pays $212,000.

Brown a one time Presidential candidate and governmor of California became Mayor of Oakland California a few years back in an effort to turn the cities economy around. Oakland is a seaport town. Its has some of the best ports in the world. The city is going through a recession but it will recover. There is the usual crime and urban blight but these things can be taken care of. Now if Mr. Brown wants to beat his rich opponent who has vowed to spend $100,000,000 to beat hime he had better get on the good foot.

Riots and Oakland’s Police Chief May Doom Jerry
Brown’s Run for California Governor

By Rod Pennington

Former Governor and former Mayor of Oakland, Jerry Brown, is in deep trouble in his campaign to replace Arnold “The Terminator” Schwarzenegger as Governor of California. First he is facing a well-heeled opponent, former eBay billionaire Meg Whitman, who is willing to spend over $100 million of her own money to beat him. Even facing a self-financed opponent with near bottomless pockets, he was holding his own until a week ago.

If he loses, then he can point the finger at the citizens of his hometown of Oakland. Last Thursday there was overnight rioting following the conviction of a BART employee of killing an unarmed Black man. During the riot a few windows were broken and some stores were looted but nothing worse than what we’re grown to expect from a city winning a world championship in a major sport.

The big blow came today when Oakland Police Chief, Anthony Bates, announced the city of Oakland has given up trying to maintain the peace. He provided a list of 44 crimes the police in Jerry Brown’s home town will no longer enforce. Because of budget cuts, after midnight tonight, if someone breaks into your home, steals your identity or you’re involved in a car wreck, send the Oakland Police an email. Seriously. That is Oakland’s idea of “Protect and Serve.”

This is very bad for the quirky but always interesting Jerry Brown. As California’s Attorney General and top law enforcement officer, the police chief in the town where he used to be mayor running up the white flage is not a good thing. With so many Democrats in close races this election cycle, after Brown’s nightmare week, his potential donors may start looking for more promising places to send their campaign dollars.

We have touched on this campaign previously in a rather light-hearted manner.Second Coming of the Age of Aquarius? Dude! The guy who used to date Linda Ronstadt like back in the Dark Ages or something, wants another shot at running California.

Governor “Moonbeam”, the name given to Jerry Brown by Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mike Royko, was one of the first baby boomers to hold a major office. Decidedly liberal and a bit odd, the name not only fit, it stuck.

The son of popular California Governor Pat Brown, “Moonbeam” was able to win the governor’s mansion after future president Ronald Reagan was term limited out. After a 30 year hiatus, he wants his old job back.

Since the election season kicked off it has been typical Jerry Brown. He has made a series of unforced errors and gaffes. Comparing his opponent, eBay billionaire Meg Whitman, to Nazi propaganda master Joseph Goebbels was vintage Brown. What was charming when you’re a handsome 30 year old out to change the world looks a bit odd on a guy in his 70s.

Faced with an opponent with a fat wallet and a willingness to spend a pile, Brown has California Democrats nervous. “The room for [error] when your opponent is going to spend $200 million is very small,” said Democratic consultant Chris Lehane.

Combine that with Jerry Brown’s chaotic campaign style and his legendary micromanagement, it could be a tough year for Moonbeam even in the heavily democratic Golden State.
